On the security front, it looks indeed like ffmpeg is doing better but it is still hearsay. What I know, though, is that it is not realistic to maintain two such libraries in the course of a stable release. Said otherwise: if we have a consensus that ffmpeg is better, then let’s do the switch NOW. Not after the freeze.
