With $ echo /etc/rc*/*avahi-daemon /etc/rc0.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc1.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc2.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc3.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc4.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc5.d/K02avahi-daemon /etc/rc6.d/K02avahi-daemon running $ invoke-rc.d avahi-daemon start indeed does not start avahi-daemon.
