There is the option of changing GnuTLS to use something other than libgcrypt. There are APIs for doing this dynamically in GnuTLS, and if that is not sufficient (if you want to avoid linking to libgcrypt entirely) we could also support e.g. GNU Nettle as the crypto library. However some parts may be missing from GNU Nettle, e.g., entropy gathering functionality, so that would have to be re-implemented.
