In both KDE (e.g. Konqueror, Kmail) and GNOME (e.g. gedit) applications
Cyrillic letters are displayed as double-width.  However, Mozilla and
Mozilla-based browsers display them properly, as does GNU Emacs (customly
compiled recent CVS.)

There must be some low-level package responsible for this, I just don't
know which.  Maybe fontconfig or something.

closing as this bug has been tagged unreproducable three years ago and was 
caused by invalid font configuration.
