Hi Neil, I would rather say that the severity of the bug is serious since the beginning, but that it is only a few days that it is properly documented. Also, I have no intention to hijiack the package. Indeed, fallback solution for me is to switch to the "not by business" mode, and just aptitude purge sbackup. This said, I hope that the bug can be fixed by somebody, be it the maintainer or another DD intereted to give some love to this package.
