As for .gconf, GConf schemas are now registered with a temporary $HOME, therefore it should currently not be created anymore. As for .gnome2, it may be created by some software gaining root privileges, like gnome-system-tools, but I don't know any standard GNOME postinst actions that could create it. -- .''`.
