LDIF is rfc described... there shouldn't be any issue using the LDIF output. The main issue is possibly stripping the entryCSN for the use of syncrepl. However, syncrepl was poorly implemented in OpenLDAP 2.2, and i would advise against its use. OpenLDAP 2.3 has a completely rewritten syncrepl implementation that is stable.
