I suppose that I am one of the few DDs that has anything to do with the selling side of GNU/Linux distros and have day to day contact with J. Average User. This is probably why the issue does not get addressed. On the commercial side I treat Debian as a meta-distribution, raw material for specialised installation CDs. Klaus Knopper and Jon Danzig (Libranet) treat it in much the same way. I think I have sold only one Official i386 3.0 set, the others have been my "Enhanced" set with OOo and the like included. I am in the final stages of producing a fast, mindless and low intervention CD for computer dealers. Neither of these would be possible without Debian. I would not even attempt to build such CDs with other distros, let alone building installation CDs for GNU Hurd. As a meta-distribution Debian is superb. However, it would be good if Debian could also be more aware of J.Average User.
