Could you give a quick overview about how to replace devfs with udev?

Do you have to make a /dev/ dir containing a minimum of devices like
the rootfs, console and ramdisks?

I'm basically just intrested in whats needed in /dev/ to get udev
started and what userspace tools udev needs on a initrd.
