MGT is much more capable than gnome-terminal, I prefer the power of MGT over gnome-terminal, and if no-one else will step in, I'd be willing to maintain MGT myself.
I wouldn't think that any GNOME 1 program is obsolete. In this case MGT provides useful functionality and the fact that it's based on GNOME 1 is meaningless.
