Specifically, these autoresponders demand that the spammers either validate an email address or use a known good 'from' address. So they will - when spamming someone harvested from debian-devel, they'll set the from address to debian-devel. Personally I think bayesian based spam filters are a godsend. They're a bit naive in places such as being unigram or bigram based, but that'll probably get fixed in version two. And already they are still amazingly good.
