Hi, libc6-dev is not available on all of the Debian platforms so a build dependency on lib6-dev will cause the program not to compile on systems without
libc6-dev. This problem has been solved with build-essentials and the libc-dev virtual package which is part of build-essentials. So, here is a list of package that have build-dependencies on libc6-dev for no reason at all. I'll start filing bugs if these don't get fixed or there is a reason I should file the bugs. at-spi atlas-cpp authbind auto-apt bfr -- also build depends on c-compiler. fenris gail glib1.2 gtimer ketm libart-lgpl libgail-gnome libgda2 libgnomedb libmcal -- also build depends on gcc multi-gnome-terminal nss-multidomain pciutils prozilla python-utmp rproxy -- also build depends on gcc, make, dpkg-dev rscheme skstream smail spidermonkey sweep -- Actually depends on libc6-dev | libc-dev, but also depends on make, gcc, and dpkg-dev tcpspy varconf wmget dsniff libnss-pgsql The following packages depend on a versioned libc6-dev but don't include libc0.3-dev. rstatd valgrind xaw3d The following have build dependencies on libc0.2 which doesn't exist any more. nfs-user-server lilypond netkit-bootparamd netkit-rusers netkit-rwall All this information was found via: grep-dctrl -F Build-Depends -s Package,Build-Depends libc6-dev *_Sources *_Sources is http.us.d.o... unstable and non-us....unstable ===== James Morrison University of Waterloo Computer Science - Digital Hardware 2A co-op http://hurd.dyndns.org Anyone referring to this as 'Open Source' shall be eaten by a GNU __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
