Sorry, I just realized that the latest etch hal version is (0.5.8.1-6.1), which doesn't include latest patches:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/h/hal/hal_0.5.8.1-9/changelog That's the reason why the "bug" was still there.
