Package: mozilla-plugin-vlc
Version: 0.8.6.a.debian-2
Followup-For: Bug #400720

Summary: video fails to work when accessed from news homepage.

Although this (no video) bug was marked as "fixed" in
0.8.6-svn20061012.debian-3, it still exists in 0.8.6.a.debian-2 (on
iceweasel 2.0.0.2+dfsg-1).
The relationship is a bit complicated, however.

My test case are the video newsclips at the Sydney Morning Herald:
http://media.fairfax.com.au/?sy=smh&category=Breaking%20News
(my apologies if you need to subscribe. subscription is free however).

Now when I enter
http://media.fairfax.com.au/?sy=smh&category=Breaking%20News directly,
then (no video) comes up for a second but is then replaced by the video, so
the plugin works here. I notice the url got automatically
replaced by
http://media.smh.com.au/?sy=smh&category=Breaking+News&source=undefined

If however I access the video pages in the "normal" way, by clicking
on the "VIDEO NEWS" link on the newspaper's home page at
http://www.smh.com.au/ , then a new window pops up, shows the
(no video) in the video box as before, but this time the (no video)
remains there. It is never replaced after a second by the video. The
video fails to be shown. The popup window here has been adjusted by
the website so there is no title bar. Clicking on "View Page Info"
tells me its url is
http://media.smh.com.au/?sy=smh&category=Breaking+News&source=smh.com.au%2F
If I enter this url directly then video (clicking on one of the
stories listed along the bottom of the window) still fails with (no video).

Whether the "source=" entry is the cause of the bug, I don't know,
but I can confirm that the same video page works normally after I
remove mozilla-plugin-vlc (I think totem-mozilla is picking the video
up via libtotem-gmp-plugin.so in that case, assuming the video itself
is avi or wmv).

I hope this test case helps in finally fixing the fix.
