I can't reproduce this in the pergolesi sid_amd64 chroot either.

I thought that 2.19-2 was ok, but after reading SCons/config/gnu in the
source package, I think using DEBUG=1 is the wrong approach as it
disables size optimisation for the stubs & plugins, turns off -O2
optimisation for makensis and GenPatch. I'll patch the scons files so
that you can specify DEBUG=half or similar and get debugging symbols in
the non-Win32 parts without the side effects of optimisation changes.
I'll upload a fixed version today.
