I also tried to contact ahead a few times in the past with absolutely no answer. As you might've noticed I'm maintaining this package since more than a year now for Ubuntu and we've taken the last CVS snapshot because of this issue and various other bugfixes for portability, broken API, etc you might be interested in. Otherwise I could give you some patches in early January as I'm currently busy... Bye
