The real issue which I had overlooked in your first message is that the static /dev on your system has a /dev/.static/ directory. This is wrong and broken, but you can just rm -rf it (BEWARE: do this ONLY if udev has not been installed, or you will delete the underlying /dev). The correct fix is to mkdir -p the target directory of the symlink in the while loop, but it's not really urgent since this condition does not naturally occours on normal systems. -- ciao, Marco
