As far as I can see the most important issue appears when upgrading from 1.0.0-4 (maybe from other 1.0.0 versions, too), because this completely removes fonts.dir. The sarge version handles this correct. But also a fresh installation of etch is broken. If only xfonts-scalable (and no other Type1 font package) is installed, this means, that no fonts.dir is installed, which results in xfonts-scalable been completely unusable. If gsfonts-x11 is installed before xfonts-scalable, gsfonts-x11 will work correct, while the fonts from xfonts-scalable aren't accessible. > If the latter, then I don't think this is a release-critical bug, > and the severity is at most important. It is still a policy violation which makes the package and maybe other packages unusable. I prefer fixing it instead of discussing the severity (xfonts-scalable is no longer part of the xfree or x.org sources, so it isn't a problem to build a new version of this package).
