Package: librrd2
Version: 1.2.11-0.6
Severity: grave
Hi,
I'm noticing a peculiar problem with rrd.cgi (from
http://haroon.sis.utoronto.ca/rrd/scripts/ ) on Debian etch, with RRDtool
1.2.11. Apparently, something makes the Perl RRD library crash every once
in a while, whereas the same rrd.cgi works flawlessly on dozens of Debian
sarge systems, with RRDtool 1.0.49.
When rrd.cgi is run from Apache, it just displays 500 server error, logs
"Premature end of script headers: rrd.cgi" and nothing else.
When I run it from a terminal:

I tried narrowing the problem down to a particular stanza in rrd.cfg, and
noticed that I have the best chance to get it working again when I comment
out the graph of Apache process states, which is the most complex of all
(it has 10 variables).
However, it is not deterministic - after a couple of page reloads, it starts
malfunctioning again :( and then after a while it works again, and then
on and off, all the time.
I've used the grave severity because the problem re-occurs occasionally but
reliably, and the library should never crash - if something is wrong with
the calling program, it should error out, but not crash.
I can provide a link to one such rrd.cgi instance upon request (as well as
core files), and the author of rrd.cgi Haroon Rafique told me that he sees
it regularly as well.
Please investigate and fix. TIA.
