Daniel told me that he is working on ipw* this weekend and I would like you to look at bug http://bugs.debian.org/384558 If you upgrade to the latest available kernel version in Debian (linux-image-2.6.18-1-ARCH), and then update ieee80211-source to the version Daniel is about to upload, I think this bug should be fixed too.
