Hi! Yes, PHP5 versions before 5.2.0 have some security bugs and as the webpage says "This release also obsoletes the 5.1 branch of PHP." . Thus a package update to 5.2.0 is needed soon targeted to Etch IMHO. I have already done a local NMU, seems to be OK. I don't think it would be welcomed if I upload it; so better wait for the PHP packaging team to catch up.
