I really fail to see why the same code should be in two sources then. The Debian Mplayer packages should simply be uploaded coordinately with ffmpeg if need be (and I don't expect that to happen too often). I think VLC and Xine-lib already follow this course of action, and VLC and Xine are certainly comparable to Mplayer in terms of functionalities and quality. You might still want to discuss whether Mplayer is linked statically or dynamically with Debian's ffmpeg, i.e. weighting performances with more rebuilds during security announces, but the presence of the ffmpeg sources in Mplayer is not acceptable if these are pristine and Mplayer uses the ffmpeg API. > A patch was never sent, just the idea suggested. Hmm sorry, I didn't knew about the exact details, just that they could not push the autotools patch upstream as this had been rejected multiple times. That is, I didn't knew whether they only proposed switching to autotools or an actual patch. Thanks for clarifying, even if it does not make any difference in the end-result. -- Loïc Minier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
