this is repost, because i got back a failure message claiming that the
message contained unknown commands. i now removed > chars if that helps.

And you removed -soikko with it, I assume? (Assuming you had it
 installed)

sorry if i have been unclear. i started by removing and purging all
openoffice (including soikko) and libstlport packages:

harjus:~# dpkg -l | egrep openoffice
harjus:~# dpkg -l | egrep libstlport
harjus:~# ls /usr/lib/openoffice*
ls: No match.

then i apt-get install openoffice.org after which:

harjus:~# dpkg -l | egrep openoffice
ii openoffice.org 2.0.4-2 OpenOffice.org

then i try to crash simpress, but without success:

harjus:~% cd $HOME
harjus:~% rm -r .openoffice.org2/
harjus:~% simpress
harjus:~%

then i install libstlport5.0:

harjus:~# apt-get install libstlport5.0
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libstlport5.0
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/209kB of archives.
After unpacking 631kB of additional disk space will be used.
Selecting previously deselected package libstlport5.0.

Unpacking libstlport5.0 (from .../libstlport5.0_5.0.2-11_i386.deb) ...
Setting up libstlport5.0 (5.0.2-11) ...

and start simpress again. this time when i go to 'empty
presentation/create/tools/options/language setting/writing aids' i get a
sure crash every time.

i don't get backtrace nor core dump and thus cannot tell more about the
crash. it looks very likely though that the cash is caused by
installation of libstlport5.0, because if i remove libstlport5.0, i
cannot crash simpress anymore.
