Package: chkservice
Version: 0.3-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch upstream
The chkservice systemd TUI is intended to be able to start, stop, enable, and
disable services as a front-end for systemctl. On certain services, it fails
to be able to enable or disable them, showing the errors:
Failed: Invalid argument
or
Failed: Connection reset by peer
Notably, one service that chkservice fails to be able to enable or disable on
my Debian Testing (bullseye) system is lighttpd
This appears to be a known upstream bug as reported here:
https://github.com/linuxenko/chkservice/issues/12
There also appears to be a forked version with a correction here:
https://github.com/nufeng74/chkservice
I've tested the patch and is appears to work. Recommend adopting this patch
into Debian. It appears to be minor enough to justify a change for testing
to get into Debian 11.
The problem appears to be caused by c_str temporary pointers. I'm not 100%
sure there aren't security implications to this.
