can you propose a patch based on the upstream commit?  Do you have write access
to our Salsa repositories?

I figured out that we can not directly use the new version because our
toolchain detects it belongs to BioC 3.21 and intentionally adds a virtual
dependency that prevents the package from co-existing with BioC 3.20 packages.
It's easy to workaround with a patch, but in that case patching the current
version in Debian is as easy and more conservative.
