After sending the previous update, I figured I should check why that
piece of code in question was removed, and found this commit:

So, I believe this commit of dh-rust is what broke rust-safe-arch.
Jonas, since you are the maintainer of both this rust-safe-arch and
dh-rust. Was this change motivated by something being broken? It feels
wrong to suggest to revert it this late into the release, although after
my investigation it does look like that commit is wrong and should be
reverted. But I'm no expert here, so I might be missing some important
motivation.
