Just give it a try in a recent pbuilder chroot and you'll see the error too. Those buildds you mention built it in mid-August. mips' however tried a couple of days ago and failed too (with very same error). And to be clear, I am trying it under i386. I've contacted upstream about this and they suggested a change in configure.in.in - replace KDE_FLEX with AM_PROG_LEX, which seems to fix it.
