I would suggest a lower range, as the gid mapping inside containers (at least lxd in ubuntu) doesn't allow such a large range by default. Since the ping command is executed by the "backuppc" user, which is a system users (i.e., uid/gid < 1000), I'd use the "0 65534" range, but something as small as "0 1000" should work too. In fact, I'm testing that in ubuntu right now, while we don't have a system-wide fix.
