Modern versions of nrpe resolve most of the issues that inspired the creation of this package, but for most use cases Icinga 2's distributed monitoring modes should be preferred. I would be happy to hand over maintenance of this package, both up- and down-stream to anyone who is thusly inclined. I will file an RM bug for it after the release of Trixie if nobody steps up.
