Thanks, this is a consequence of the 64 bit time_t transition which has

the 64bit time_t transition affected 32bit architectures only. This issue is seen on some 64bit architectures only. Are you sure about your reasoning?

i am a little surprised those running the transition did not file bugs
against affected packages when the new packages were uploaded, (especially
as i suggested chkrootkit would be affected ), but it is what it is.

The consequence is that the fix for this is not yet complete (more things
are broken than expected) and is not pushed anywhere public yet.

Can you advise on how long before this becomes an annoyance to others?

I ask because a small bit of time is needed for a full fix- i was hoping to
finish and teat the fix at the weekend, ---i will then need someone to do
a sponsored upload.

If a faster fix is needed, there are other options incan suggest.

chkrootkit's autopkg tests fail on amd64, arm64 and riscv64, blocking
the migration of binutils.
