Package: python3-pcl
Version: 0.3.0~rc1+dfsg-14+b2
Severity: serious
Hello!

python3-pcl doesn't build with Python3.12: it throws many Cython errors.
I looked briefly, and fixing them appears non-trivial, at least to those
with no prior cython experience.

Upstream is dead:

  https://github.com/strawlab/python-pcl

And no obvious successor has stepped up:

  https://github.com/strawlab/python-pcl/issues/395

Do we want to backport fixes? Any Debian people adept at keeping this
going?

Heh. Well, I had this package installed, and I was using it. Then I
upgraded to Python 3.12, which broke this package. I tried to build it,
hit lots of errors, looked in our bug tracker, saw only that there were
no bugs, and filed a new one.

I guess I could have looked deeper, but it didn't seem crazy that there
would be no bugs: this isn't a popular package, and python3.12 landed in
unstable not all that long ago.

In any case, clearly this has been handled, and I'm closing this. Thanks
for maintaining it. I guess I'm going to have to do my own Python
wrapping for my usage
