I had a quick look some time ago at what would be needed to port from pcre to pcre2, but this is not something I am particularly confortable doing. At least in the Debian Med team, there are a bunch of tools that (transitively) depend on the ncbi-tools6, so this is causing a lot of autoremovals. Have a nice day, :) -- .''`.
