Hi Kay

I see that an updated nuitka has still not made it to Debian and so nuitka has not been available in testing (or working in unstable) for over 15 months.

Do you have a firm plan for a nuitka upload?

Would it make sense for nuitka to be team maintained so that others can work on the package in your absence?

nuitka is a test-dependency of pyside6 and it would be better to have those tests run in the packaging than carry around lots of (fragile) patches to disable or xfail them.

In one of messages to this bug you had asked for advice on how to update the dependencies for nuitka. I'm not sure of the nuances of your question, but it seems that since nuitka is very tightly linked to individual interpreter versions, it would be reasonable to not have "Depends: python3" and instead have "Depends: python3.12" (for whatever version of python it was built for). For the purposes of making generalisable packaging, a using `py3versions -d` in debian/rules and in a substvar for the Depends might be a reasonable approach. The main aim is to have it appear in the transition tracker rather than the failure appear in a later rebuild. Focusing the Debian packaging on Debian (rather than supporting the matrix of derivatives and versions) would also simplify the packaging substantially which might make it simpler to work with.

regards
Stuart
