Could you try rebuilding maxima with up to date sid toolchain (binutils, gcc) and test whether the problem still exists? It seems as if the ELF file is somehow messed up (for lack of a better term), and its sections don't point to distinct regions of the file, which AFAIK shouldn't happen in practice..
