Well, it only does part of the job. It doesn't cache "older" files, so it's not usable as "backup" in case of broken unstable packages. Of course there are alternatives, but I already had one or two occassions where snapshot.debian.net didn't have a working old version. Anyway I'm also happily using apt-cacher now, as I'm absolutely unable to debug/fix the current problems in apt-proxy..
