I think the current situation might be expressed as "we're working on it". Emacs 28 introduced native compilation, which we're trying to support for bookworm, but it's been a fairly bumpy ride so far. We still expect to have things under control in the next month or so (maybe sooner), but if that doesn't pan out, then we'll likely just back off and start with an Emacs 28 without native compilation.
