Since the driver is a binary compiled by NVIDIA, we can't add support for newer X server by just recompiling it ... there is a harcoded list of supported xorg-video-abi-XX alternatives.

If you force the installation of the driver with the new X server, can you confirm that the driver works without complaining about an ABI mismatch?

So far nvidia hasn't mentioned in their changelog that they added support for the new X server with the bumped ABI (while they did that in the past), but there are some reports out in the wild claiming that NVIDIA actually added support ...
