I agree the .la files should get fixed. And I've started a discussion with that with upstream libtool. See: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool/2005-12/msg00021.html I hope we can get that fixed soon. Anyway, as long as your package in binNMU'able, I think this shouldn't cause much problems.
