I can confirm this happening. This is absolutely absurd. Debian is
supposed to produce a _stable_ operating system, is it not? To the best
of my understanding, that is why the included packages are often of
older versions of software: to maintain and ensure security and
stability. I find it absolutely incomprehensible as to why a package,
'out of the box,' just completely fails and segfaults. If the nature of
the package is such that, it is bound to not work due to API changes in
the service it interacts with, it should NOT be included. The only
possibly way to remedy this problem in a timely fashion, is for the
package provider to fix the problem immediately, and at this point, for
the user to be able to compile that new version from source; which
completely negates any reason AT ALL for this to be a Debian package; as
the user should not be required to do that, and the Operating System
providing the package, can't reliably update the package appropriately,
assuming that developer even fixes the problem at all.
