Well I just tried to install libesd-alsa0 and gbib still run fine. Since you found a work-around I downgrade this bug to important. However, since gbib does not itself use sound it is suspicious that libesd0 fix the problem: it is probably not a bug in gbib. Could you try to compile gbib and run it under gdb ?
