hello

i can not reproduce your problem.
can you tell me which graphics card you have? lspci and lspci -v (update-pciids)
I have an ATI Radeon 9200:
0000:00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 255, IRQ 48
        Memory at 98000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
        I/O ports at f0000400 [size=256]
        Memory at 90000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Expansion ROM at f1000000 [disabled] [size=128K]
        Capabilities: [58] AGP version 2.0
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

and show me your xfree/xorg configuration (which video drvier)? /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or xorg.conf
I'm using the free driver availble with xorg, default options:
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Generic video card"
        Driver "ati"
        BusID "PCI:0:16:0"
EndSection

X log says:
(II) ATI: ATI driver (version 6.5.7) for chipset: ati
...
(--) Chipset ATI Radeon 9200 5962 (AGP) found
...
(II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled

Screen resolution is 1024x768.
The screen blanks for a few seconds (as if changing resolution) and
then briquolo crashes and the screen gets back to the desktop.

Thanks.
