Hi, unfortunately the suggested and applied (thanks!) patch was in the spirit of upstreams idea to check for the gpsd api version, but the gpsd upstream is bumping api versions like other people change diapers on their toddlers... so I've created a pull request to remove the check for coming major api changes.
