Martin, can you tell me what version of linux-headers-* you have installed on the failing system? If it's version 4.9.168-1+deb9u5 then it's possible that what you're running into is https://bugs.debian.org/935134, which is worked around in wireguard 0.0.20190702-2 (see https://bugs.debian.org/934763). Please let me know when you've tried that version. if it works for you, we can close this bug as a duplicate of #935134. If it doesn't work for you, then i'll need to dig into it further.
