If you do not have a previous Linux kernel installed (with an old
initramfs image), you can work around the issue by adding `fastboot`
to the Linux kernel line in the bootloader [1]. For example, in GRUB
you can press the key *e* to edit an entry in the GRUB menu.

Then install the package *logsave*, and run `sudo update-initramfs -u`
as Ben wrote.
