Upon reaching nodm, the entire X-windows is lost and the user thinks the computer has rebooted and all his work in other windows is lost. He then sees a tty1 prompt and realizes it is not a complete reboot. Later nodm restarts and he is back in X-windows. But his work is still lost. Can't you warn (via whiptail) or delay restarting or something?
