Probably your boot problems are due to an udev 240 bug and while waiting
for a solution you'd better to downgrade udev to 239. I've done it using
snapshot.debian.org.
After the update, both machines generate errors on boot:
Dec 23 15:41:16 sonata lvm2-activation-generator: lvmconfig failed
Dec 23 15:41:16 sonata lvm2-activation-generator: Activation generator
failed.
These messages are another problem and I've resolved reading this:
