Package: xserver-xorg-video-abi-23
Version: 23
Severity: grave
Justification: Renders xserver-xorg-video-nvidia uninstallable
I apologize for my previous faulty bug report. It turns out I was mistaken
about xserver-xorg-core being the problem.
It's actually xserver-xorg-video-abi which is the problem. Xserver-xorg-abi is
a dependency of xserver-xorg-video-nvidia and it's not available, as you'll
notice here:
https://packages.debian.org/stretch-backports/xserver-xorg-video-nvidia
I apologize for the lack of terminal output. The Debian machine that I'm
working on doesn't have a GUI at the moment because I haven't been able to get
the nvidia-driver package installed. I'm actually typing these bug reports on
my Mac.

Josh Blagden

No, it's still nvidia-graphics-drivers's problem, since that did not
support the newest xorg-video-abi.
Anyway, new packages are in sid, buster and were just uploaded to
stretch-backports.
