Package: menu
Version: 2.1.14
Priority: important

I was wondering why the latest version of the 'joe' package failed
miserably to install:

Reading changelogs... Done
(Reading database ... 175798 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace joe 2.8-23 (using .../archives/joe_3.1-0.1_i386.deb)
...
Unpacking replacement joe ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/joe.postrm: line 3: /usr/bin/update-menus: Permission
denied
dpkg: warning - old post-removal script returned error exit status 1
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/postrm: line 3: /usr/bin/update-menus: Permission
denied
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/joe_3.1-0.1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
 subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 1
/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/postrm: line 3: /usr/bin/update-menus: Permission
denied
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
 subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/joe_3.1-0.1_i386.deb

And then I saw this:

$ ls -la /usr/bin/update-menus
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       164008 2004-05-27 18:16
/usr/bin/update-menus

Unbelievable!

Now, the postinst from menu should have done the following:

<snip>
chmod a+x /usr/bin/update-menus
</snip>

But this didn't seem to be run at all. Just FYI, I upgraded from 2.1.13.
After reinstalling the package (with a 'dpkg -i') everything worked fine
again. Strange, isn't it?

Regards

Javier

Hi,

The bug about joe and command(1) has been fixed for a long time, only in a
NMU so it wasn't acknowledged until now.

Thanks for reporting.
