redshift still works for me (haven't tried redshift-gtk), both with
the manual and the geoclue2 location provider.
I'm adjusting the bug metadata is this doesn't seem to be a general
problem.

... where bigon argues that /usr/share/applications/redshift.desktop
should be enough, and this file is indeed installed by the Debian
package.
