Sorry for the delay. I haven't found the cause yet, but here's my progress: It looks like kernel version is a factor. All my test machines run current 4.15-rc, so that was common to all builds. On amd64, with today's unstable: ✓ 4.9.76, self-compiled ✗ 4.14.13, self-compiled ✗ linux-image-4.14.0-3-amd64 (4.14.12-2) ✗ 4.15.0-rc7-debug-00137, self-compiled You do run some version of 4.14.0-3-amd64, though.
